I started cutting the carpet with a knife below and above where I *think* screws are going to be… Then with pliers I can grab onto the carpet strip and pull just a little off where the screws are which is not as difficult as trying to remove the whole sheet.
man, that stuff looks ABSOLUTELY FOUL! I can’t even imagine what that must smell like…
